Sauble Today ("we", "us", "our") is a Canadian small business based in Ontario that operates the website at saubletoday.ca. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and the choices you have. We aim to comply with Canadian privacy law, including PIPEDA.

Business Listings

Business listings on Sauble Today may include a business name, address, phone number, website, hours, photos, category, and description. Most of this information is publicly available and is displayed so visitors can discover local businesses.

Business Owner Accounts

When a business owner creates an account or claims a listing, we collect their name, email address, business information, and any content they upload (logos, hero images, descriptions, hours, events, specials). We use this to verify ownership, manage the listing, and communicate about the service.

Visitor Accounts

Visitors can browse Sauble Today without creating an account. If a visitor optionally submits a story, review, question, or beach report, we collect the information they provide along with basic device and session data.

Contact Forms & "Ask a Local"

When you use a contact form, submit an "Ask a Local" question, or send us an email, we collect the message contents and any contact details you provide so we can respond. We do not use these messages for marketing without your consent.

Analytics & Website Usage Tracking

We use Google Analytics and our own internal analytics to understand which pages are viewed, which links are clicked, and how visitors move through the site. This helps us improve the experience and gives business owners aggregate insights about their listing performance.

Cookies

We use a small number of first-party and third-party cookies for authentication, security, analytics, and remembering preferences. You can disable cookies in your browser, but parts of the site (such as signing in) may not work correctly.

Website Clicks, Phone Clicks & Listing View Analytics

Business listings track anonymized impressions and clicks — including listing views, website clicks, phone-number taps, direction requests, and event/special views. These metrics are shown to the business owner in aggregate on their dashboard and to us for platform health. We do not identify individual visitors.

Stripe Payment Processing

Payments for Visibility Credits, memberships, and promotions are processed by Stripe. Card details are entered directly into Stripe's hosted checkout and never touch our servers. We receive a transaction reference, amount, product, and status from Stripe. Their privacy policy is at stripe.com/privacy.

Visibility Credits & Promotions

We record purchases, balances, and use of Visibility Credits, as well as which promotions (Spotlight, Weekend Visibility, Featured Events, Featured Specials) a business has booked, so we can display them correctly and provide performance reports.

Data Retention

We keep account and listing data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. Financial records are retained as long as required by Canadian tax and accounting law. Anonymized analytics may be retained indefinitely. You can request deletion by contacting us — see below.

Third-Party Services

Sauble Today relies on trusted third parties to operate: Supabase (managed hosting and database, powered by Lovable Cloud), Stripe (payments), Google Analytics (traffic analytics), Google Maps (directions), and email providers used to send transactional messages. Each has its own privacy practices.

Your Rights

Under PIPEDA and applicable Canadian law, you have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal information. Contact us at hello@saubletoday.ca and we will respond within a reasonable timeframe.
